John P Eckert was born on April 9, 1919. He lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. John W Mauchly was born on August 30, 1907 in Ohio. Eckert and Mauchly both worked at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1946, the two coinvented the ENIAC, which was inspired by John Atanasoff's designs. A few years later they had created the BINAC, UNIVAC I, and went on to complete the EDVAC and an electronic controls company. Mauchly died January 8, 1980. Eckert died on June 3, 1995.
