Jack St. Clair Kilby was born November 8, 1923 in Jefferson City, Missouri. He worked at Texas Instruments and was an American engineer and one of the inventors of the integrated circuit, a microchip that contained a large number of tiny transistors that was developed at Texas Instruments. His goal when creating the integrated circuit was to reduce the tyranny of numbers to one, which he was able to accomplish. He was awarded a Nobel Prize for his integrated circuit and his work in technology. Kilby is also credited with developing the world’s first ever microchip, which is still used today and helped to change modern microelectronics, and he is credited for co-inventing the first handheld calculator, receiving a patent for his design. Jack Kilby died on 20, 2005 in Dallas, Texas but is still remembered for his work in electronics.
