Abacus

An example of one of the many kinds of Abaci

The Abacus was created by the ancient Sumerians between 2700-2300 BC, making it the world's earliest calculator. The first mentions of the Abacus dates back to the Phoenician era, 1550 BCE to 300 BCE. It allowed people to perform calculations and store data, which means it precedes all modern data storage systems. The Abacus, also known as a "counting frame", is still used today in areas of the world including Europe, Russia, China and Africa and is part of jobs like merchants, traders, and clerks.
